On the afternoon of June 3, 2026, marking the 10th anniversary of the World Transport Convention (WTC), the "Multilateral Academicians Thematic Session: Future Cities and Transportation Development Driven by Dual Intelligence" — one of the Convention's core thematic sessions and a major event hosted by our School — was successfully convened in Tianjin.

The event was hosted by the WTC Academic Committee and jointly organized by Southeast University's School of Transportation, the Transportation-Energy-Materials Integration Research Center, and the WTC Division of Transportation Engineering, with co-organization support from the WTC Division of Transportation Planning and the Underground Logistics Working Committee of the Jiangsu Underground Space Society. More than 50 professionals and industry representatives from related fields participated. Prof. Junyi Zhang, Foreign Member of the Japan Academy of Engineering, Chief Professor at Southeast University, and Vice Chair of the WTC Division of Transportation Planning, presided over the meeting.

At the symposium, experts and delegates engaged in vigorous discussions and exchanges on the conference themes. The deliberations concluded that the resilience, equity, and sustainability of future cities and transportation hinge on the ability to establish a bidirectional feedback mechanism—forming a continuously evolving institutional closed loop—between the execution efficiency of "fast thinking" and the structural wisdom of "slow thinking." The Dual-Intelligence methodology holds tremendous application potential across a wide range of fields, including global AI governance. It calls for a paradigm shift from the "computational" thinking of artificial intelligence to the "calculative" thinking of immune intelligence, deeply integrating the two to provide a trustworthy cognitive framework oriented toward the future.

Since 2023, this marks the third time our School has organized core thematic sessions for the WTC. With a focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and a forward-looking vision for the post-SDGs era, the sessions have facilitated valuable idea exchanges and meaningful outcomes for the Convention. Moving forward, the School will keep pushing cross-disciplinary collaboration and global partnerships, concentrating on smart, resilient, and sustainable urban transportation governance to deliver more insights and strength to the transportation sector's transformation and innovation.
